The Fiat Auto, Turin Plant is the Group’s biggest. Production also includes models Multipla, Musa, Mito, Grande Punto, Idea, Punto and Thesis. The 11.000 person strong plant now produces some 550.000 cars a year.
Previous Situation
The waxing department is the end of the production chain and features manual application of wax (Cf. Picture) of the hood, roof and luggage compartment hat create problems of: • application quality due to scant precision and coverage of unnecessary points or worse where wax should never be applied) • irregular consumption • operator exposed to spray fumes due to non-use of DPI
Present Situation
• GLF has completed a semiautomatic waxing plant provided with a horizontal reciprocal unit (Cf. Picture 1) capable of applying wax to 11 motorcar models selected by the operator via the control panel (Cf. Picture 2) • An automatic feed unit (Cf. Picture 3) fitted with a sensor interfaced with a leading bar (Cf. Picture 4), after recognising the car selected by the operator, applies wax following the car shape according to the programme set.
Advantages
• Improved operator conditions and operation environment. • Operator health protection, since his job is merely to position the car and preselect the spray programme • Uniform wax distribution to the parts involved • No production rejects and reworks due to cleaning of areas wrongly covered
